Hydrostatic head (mm)<\/strong>: indicates the pressure the fabric can withstand before letting water through. A rating of 1,500\u20132,000 mm handles light rain; 5,000 to 10,000 mm is generally considered good waterproofing for normal hiking use; above 20,000 mm the jacket holds up to intense, prolonged rain, useful for mountaineering and high altitude.<\/p>\n

Breathability (MVTR, g\/m\u00b2\/24h)<\/strong>: measures how much water vapour the fabric lets out in 24 hours.
